about

'Complicity' is the fourth full-length album by Dublin musician/producer Cormac Phelan, and the third under the moniker 'Thirteen'.

It's not clear why I'm still doing this, but I am.

'Complicity' is a tight, focused and deeply satisfying execution of the many stylistic hallmarks of Thirteen's output; dark, minor-key moods from earlier slowcore recordings, close-miked and intimate vocal performances, woozy guitar textures, and an overall unapologetic melancholy. These, and many other, characteristic features are brought together in a much more structured, coherent and impactful way than ever before.

'Complicity' was self-recorded from 2012 to 2017 in Dublin, Connemara and the Mourne mountains. The remote locations were chosen for recording most of the vocals and louder guitar parts, probably with some misguided sense of rural romanticism, but in reality the sessions were isolating and weird. It turns out music is probably better recorded in some kind of studio, so that's how the rest
of the album was recorded.
